In honour of NBMCA's 50th Anniversary and to help support students who are pursuing post-secondary environmental studies, NBMCA is offering bursaries to Nipissing University, Canadore College, and Secondary School Environmental High Skills Major students.

Nipissing University

NBMCA’s Ken Adams Memorial Bursary is a $500 bursary presented to a Nipissing University student in good academic standing in an environmental concentration and who has demonstrated a commitment to the conservations of the natural environment.

NBMCA’s Jack Smylie Memorial Bursary for Environmental Conservation is a $500 bursary awarded to a Nipissing University student who demonstrates environmental leadership to help balance human needs with the needs of the natural environment in the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority watershed.  This student consistently participates, leads and/or volunteers in conservation and environmental awareness initiatives.  The student must also maintain a strong academic average.

Canadore College

The Canadore College Environmental Technology program is designed to create well-trained and diversely skilled graduates who wish to pursue a career in the environmental industry dealing with climate change issues, land restoration, water conservation, water management, drinking water protection, and other sustainability concerns.  The Eva Wardlaw Memorial Bursary will be awarded to a 1st year student who is pursing the 2nd year of study and has demonstrated a willingness and capacity to help balance human needs with the needs of the natural environment through exemplary academic achievement and innovative problem solving in field work and project assignments.

Environmental High Skills Major - Secondary Schools

To help support students who are pursuing post-secondary environmental studies, NBMCA is offering $100 Yvon Foisy Memorial Bursaries to a graduating student at each of the secondary schools within our watershed which offer the Environmental High Skills Major Program including West Ferris Secondary School, Almaguin Highlands Secondary School, F. J. McElligott Secondary School and École secondaire publique Odyssée. 

This bursary is presented to a student who is:

  • graduating this year with an Environmental High Skills Major  
  • pursuing post-secondary study (college or university) in an environment-related field; and
  • deemed by school staff to be deserving of this award in recognition of their respect for our environment.
