(North Bay, Ontario, December 3, 2021) Snowfall in the area has allowed for the start of the snow survey season this week, reports the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority (NBMCA) who measures snow depth and water content as part of its Flood Forecasting and Warning Program.

“The average snow depth for all sites is 11.1 cm (117% normal) and average water equivalence is 17.7 mm (119% normal),” said Angela Mills, NBMCA Water Resources Specialist. In 2020, the average snow depth for the three sites was 21.6 cm and water equivalence was 38.3 mm at this time of year last year.

Snow is measured for depth and water equivalence at three locations in the watershed.
