(North Bay, Ontario, March 9, 2022) As expected with the recent snowfall, snow depth has slightly increased, except for at the North Bay Golf Course, and water equivalence in the snow pack has decreased since last week’s snow pack measurements were taken by the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority as part of its flood forecasting program.

“The average snow depth for the three sites is 55.8 cm, a 1.7 cm increase from the March 1st measurements, and the average water equivalence for the three sites is 76.7 mm, a 34.3 mm decrease from last week,” said Angela Mills NBMCA’s Water Resources Specialist. “We will continue our monitoring throughout the next few months”, she added.

NBMCA is now measuring the snow pack weekly, to monitor conditions leading up to and during the spring freshet. This is a supplementary survey so there will only be comparisons to last week’s measurements. The per cent normal data will be calculated for the next snow survey which takes place March 15.

Snow is measured for depth and water equivalence at three locations in the watershed.
