Our searchable on-line mapping tool will help you learn if all or part of your property is regulated by the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority under Ontario Regulation 177/06 - Development, Interference with Wetlands and Alterations to Shorelines and Watercourses (DIA), authorized under Section 28 of the Conservation Authorities Act. If your property is within an area regulated by NBMCA and you want to do any construction work or development activities on it, you may need a permit. This is in addition to a building permit or other approvals from your municipality and other agencies.

It is important to note that the mapping is approximate and in some cases, not all of the regulated areas may be mapped.  NBMCA staff use a variety of tools to determine if a property is located within a regulated area, so please contact our Regulations Officer to confirm if the DIA Regulation applies to you or why a specific property is regulated.   You'll find more information about the Regulation and applying for a permit on our DIA Permits Page. Our Client Service Standards page provides information about what you can expect through the permitting process.

NBMCA Areas of Jurisdiction

If you are looking for a simple, printable map in .jpg format of NBMCA's jurisdictional boundaries and watersheds, visit the Maps page under About Us.  NBMCA has three different jurisdictional boundaries, depending on the applicable legislation and program area.  Conservation Authorities Act sets the boundaries for a variety of programs and services, including Ontario Regulation 177/06 (DIA).  Clean Water Act sets the jurisdictional boundaries for the Drinking Water Source Protection program.  The Ontario Building Code defines the area where the On-site Sewage System program is administered.    The boundaries are also defined on the On-line Mapping Tool as well.

Mapping Application Terms of Use

In addition to the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority (“NBMCA”) website's Terms of Use, the following applies when using the mapping application provided by NBMCA.  Use of NBMCA’s mapping application constitutes your acknowledgement of and agreement to be bound by the following additional terms:

Approximate Regulated Area

The Approximate Regulated Area layer is provided for information screening purposes only and shows the approximate regulation limits under Ontario Regulation 177/06 – North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority: Regulation of Development, Interference with Wetlands and Alterations to Shorelines and Watercourses, which came into effect May 4, 2006.  The text of O. Reg. 177/06 supersedes the mapping as represented by this data layer.  This mapping is subject to change.  Not all areas are mapped.  A feature does not have to be mapped to be regulated.  A site-specific determination may be made by NBMCA.
